Rounds three and four!
LAST WEEK:
Thursday I stayed home sick with a head cold (it was seriously stuffy in there), so I did my weekend shopping prep from the couch, surrounded by concerned cats. I realized something during my search: the grocery stores really mirror each other with the structure or style of their sales. 3 of my 4 stores had "buy [insert number] of these items and save [insert money]" kinds of sales. Normally this would be a good deal for me, but sadly the number of items required was a little unrealistic for my budget (6 items at minimum $2 a piece is a LOT of my budget for snack items). I combed through each sale and found the best versions that fit my budget (thank you Albertsons & King Soopers!)
When I got home from shopping there were real estate agents at our house so I wasn't able to do the traditional set-up photo I normally would, but I figured I would do a breakdown of the two deals I used this week!
Here's the haul:
Albertsons: Buy 10 for $.49 each ($4.90 total)
2 1-Liter bottles of seltzer
1 1-Liter bottle of tonic water
3 cans of mandarin oranges
3 Greek yogurts
1 packet of taco seasoning
King Soopers: Buy 5, save $5
1 pizza
1 bottle of salsa
1 bag of tortilla chips
1 bag of frozen broccoli
1 bag of goldfish crackers
It was more snack food and not a lot of these came together to make a full meal necessarily, but we were really low on snacking foods so this helped fill those gaps!
THIS WEEK
On Tuesday I used my sleuthing skills and did a market research study and got a $100 visa gift card! With that I was able to shop some sales and re-stock the items we were running low on. Full disclosure, this was NOT a $25 week - it was closer to a $40 week. But hey, when you have money to spend you're going to get some essentials (like seltzer water and more mouthwash). I have to also credit my $40 week to an employee who misunderstood my coupons and instead of typing-in the barcode (the image was blurry), he gave me a discount at the amount of the coupon.....so he credited me about $12!
I didn't actually get more food than normal with the $40 - some of that was also spent on toiletries we needed (TP is pretty essential). We are moving at the end of next week so we'll be paring down the food in the house even more, and I'm packing up the rest of the dry/frozen/pantry items. Moving is always so stressful - moving during grad school will be on an entirely new level. Oy...... Wish us luck!
